Elong'o Foundation was initiated by one Maasai lady /founder Mary Lomayani Laizer Through experiences of her own struggles, the founder decided to support other marginalized women's, youths to access education, health and economical activities. In 2017 when the organization was initiated, Maasai women from northern part of Tanzania gathered in engaruka Monduli, district in Arusha region, to voice their issues regarding poor living standard, lack of education for their children including insufficient health services within their communities. In 2020 Mary decided to establish the organization called Elong'o Foundation. The organization was officially registered on 23 October 2022 by six members of which 50% are women.
