The African Institute of International Law (AIIL) hosted a pivotal training workshop on women’s rights in Africa from October 19 to 21, 2023, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Maputo Protocol. This initiative addresses gaps in protocol implementation through targeted training and advocacy. Aimed at government officials and grassroots women’s rights advocates, the workshop is part of AIIL’s five-year project to bolster understanding of women’s rights for pan-African integration.
Objective: Enhance the capacity of diverse stakeholders in international human rights law pertaining to women’s rights. The program aims to raise awareness, improve skills, propose solutions, generate political commitment, promote Maputo Protocol ratification, and foster networking.
Outcomes: Participants will gain the ability to sensitize on state and partner responsibilities, identify challenges, instruct on rights using participatory pedagogy, suggest solutions, and assess training sessions focused on women’s rights.
